Woman reportedly texted employer and said her ex was holding her hostage

FARGO, N.D. (TCD) -- Police recently arrested a Minnesota man who allegedly held his ex-girlfriend hostage inside her own home in North Dakota.

According to a news release from the Fargo Police Department, on Monday, April 8, shortly after 5 a.m., officers responded to the 2600 block of 14th Street South after a female victim texted her employer and said "she would not be able to come to work because she was being held hostage by her ex-boyfriend." The victim’s employer immediately contacted police.

Upon officers’ arrival, the victim answered the door, and officials safely removed her from the residence. The victim told police her ex-boyfriend, Anthony Peterson, allegedly held her hostage at gunpoint inside her home. He reportedly had forced her to stay inside since Friday, April 5. While police interviewed the victim, they observed Peterson sleeping on the couch with a handgun.

Police later learned Peterson allegedly stole the weapon, and he wasn’t allowed to possess a firearm.

Officers arrested Peterson on charges of felony unlawful possession of a firearm, felonious restraint, terrorizing — with a dangerous weapon, and possession of stolen property.

In their statement, police said, "The officers demonstrated the department core value of guardianship. Through their swift and meticulous actions on-scene, they were able to end a tense situation while maintaining safety for all parties involved."
