Mom Charged After 14-Year-Old Girl Found Dead in ‘Emaciated, Skeletal State’

A West Virginia mother was arrested after her 14-year-old daughter was found dead Wednesday morning “in an emaciated, skeletal state.”

Julie Anne Stone Miller, 49, has been charged with child neglect causing death, Boone County Sheriff Chad Barker said.

Someone at the home, where the girl lived with her mother and two grandmothers, called 911, Barker said, and deputies found the girl in a bathroom.

According to court documents, a grandmother told deputies that the girl had not attended school since late 2019 or early 2020 and had rarely even ventured outside the house, WCHS reported.

The complaint against Miller said the girl had an eating disorder, but Barker said during the press conference that investigators had not found a diagnosis. The grandmother said the girl had been unable to function for several days and hadn’t eaten in months.

Her “appearance was shocking with an obvious emaciated, skeletal state,” the document says.

Barker said investigators are still working the case and that Miller was charged because she was girl’s “primary care provider.”

An autopsy was conducted on Thursday, but results hae not been released.

Miller appeared in court and was given a $250,000 bond
