Man tried to abduct girl at Portage Park bus stop, police warn

CHICAGO — A woman intervened as a man tried to abduct a 15-year-old girl at a bus stop in Portage Park on Thursday, Chicago police say in a new community alert.

The alert said the girl was waiting for a bus in the 3600 block of North Central around 8:15 a.m. when the man ordered her to get into his yellow mid-1990s Corvette. At one point, the man threatened to grab the girl and put her in the car.

At that point, the woman intervened, telling the man to leave the girl alone. He responded by claiming that he knew the girl and then left, according to the police.

CPD described the man as White or Hispanic, 28 to 30 years old, with a goatee and brown hair. The man, who spoke English and Spanish, was last seen heading south on Central Avenue past Addison Street in the Corvette, which has a black convertible top.

Police said surveillance footage showed the man driving west on Foster and then turning south on Central before approaching the girl.
