Man charged with burglarizing 5 residential buildings in Lakeview, Lincoln Park

CHICAGO — Prosecutors have charged a Lakeview man with burglarizing five North Side residential buildings since February. All of the break-ins were caught on video, according to Chicago police.

Armstead Doggett, 44, was arrested around 8:50 a.m. Sunday in the 400 block of West Melrose when he returned to a building he had previously burglarized and someone recognized him, according to his arrest report.

Prosecutors said Doggett broke into that building on April 1 and took a mountain bike from the storage area.

On February 24, he entered a building in the 500 block of West Barry, searching unlocked rooms and entering the mailroom, the report said. He allegedly opened unclaimed packages to steal their contents.

He’s accused of stealing three packages from a building in the 3100 block of North Lincoln on February 22.

On March 10, he allegedly burglarized buildings in the 1600 block of West Belmont and the 500 block of West Wrightwood. He pried his way into the Belmont location and burglarized cars in the condo building parking garage, prosecutors claim. He’s accused of forcing his way into the Wrightwood location to steal packages.

Doggett, of the 3100 block of North Oakley, is charged with five counts of burglary. He also faces a felony charge of unauthorized possession of a debit card because, according to his arrest report, he had a woman’s bank card when they arrested him.

Judge Mary Marubio released Doggett with a nighttime curfew.
