A 4.1-magnitude earthquake centered on the border of Orange and Riverside counties was felt throughout much of Southern California on Wednesday, May 1, afternoon.

The earthquake struck at 12:49 p.m. about 6 miles southwest of Corona, the U.S. Geological Survey said. That would place the center in the mountains between the counties.

People in inland and coastal Orange County, as well as Temecula, Perris, Corona, Riverside, Los Angeles and Santa Clarita, among other locations, reported to the USGS feeling a light earthquake.

An earthquake of this magnitude generally causes little damage.

The Los Angeles Fire Department said there were no immediate reports of damage but that its firefighters were looking for any problems.
