CHICAGO — Two people were shot within minutes and just a couple of blocks from each other in Albany Park on Tuesday evening. Chicago police believe the same gunman or gunmen are responsible for both shootings.

First, around 6:45 p.m., a 36-year-old man was shot in the back as he stood near a sidewalk in the 3700 block of West Lawrence. He was taken to St. Francis Hospital in fair condition.

CPD did not release any details about what happened. However, witnesses reported that shots were fired from a gray Honda CRV.

Cops found shell casings in several locations along Lawrence Avenue.

Minutes later, a 20-year-old woman was shot as she sat inside a vehicle in the 3800 block of West Ainslie. She was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in critical condition. Once again, police found several shell casings spread along the street.

Court records show that the male victim has a significant criminal history and is currently on pretrial release for multiple Class X felony counts of armed habitual criminal and armed violence.

He was charged with attempted murder in 2013 but eventually pleaded guilty to aggravated discharge of a firearm in exchange for a six-year sentence.

CWBChicago was created in 2013 by five residents of Wrigleyville and Boystown who had grown disheartened with inaccurate information that was being provided at local Community Policing (CAPS) meetings. Our coverage area has expanded since then to cover Lincoln Park, River North, The Loop, Uptown, and other North Side Areas. But our mission remains unchanged: To provide original public safety reporting with better context and greater detail than mainstream media outlets. Our editorial email address is news@cwbchicago.com
