CHICAGO — Three teenagers, two of them just 14 years old, are charged with robbing a man at gunpoint and driving around in a stolen car on Sunday evening. The robbery was one of several reported within about 45 minutes.

The group is charged with robbing a 47-year-old man at gunpoint in the 2900 block of North Mango around 7:15 p.m. Police managed to track down the group, which had been traveling in a red Kia sedan that was reported stolen from the Irving Park neighborhood on Saturday.

A 16-year-old boy and two 14-year-old boys each face one count of armed robbery with a firearm, according to CPD. The younger boys are also charged with possessing a stolen motor vehicle.

Leading up to the robbery on Mango, police responded to a string of similar crimes:

  • Two masked and armed men robbed two victims in the 1000 block of North Oakley around 6:20 p.m., according to preliminary information. The crew escaped in a red car.
  • About 20 minutes later, a man and woman were robbed at gunpoint near the corner of Oakley and Shakespeare in Bucktown. Two masked men displayed a gun and took the victims’ phones, bags, and money, then escaped in a red car.
  • Around 7 p.m., two masked men robbed a 16-year-old girl at gunpoint near Maplewood and Lyndale in Logan Square. Two men, both masked, took her wallet and phone and fled in a red car.

No charges have been announced in those three cases.

CWBChicago was created in 2013 by five residents of Wrigleyville and Boystown who had grown disheartened with inaccurate information that was being provided at local Community Policing (CAPS) meetings. Our coverage area has expanded since then to cover Lincoln Park, River North, The Loop, Uptown, and other North Side Areas. But our mission remains unchanged: To provide original public safety reporting with better context and greater detail than mainstream media outlets. Our editorial email address is news@cwbchicago.com
